Chaetopleura apiculata (Say in Conrad, 1834)

This three-quarter inch oblong chiton has slightly carinate valves. The lateral areas are distinctly defined, raised, and bear numerous, larger, more distantly spaced beads which may or may not be present on the dorsal region. Central areas have fifteen to twenty longitudinal rows of raised, neat beads. The girdle is narrow and mottled cream and brown in color. It is microscopically granulose and has sparsely scattered transparent short hairs. In the northern part of its range, the valves are buff to ashen in color. On the west coast of Florida, they vary from light-gray, mauve, yellow to white.
