Plaxiphora caelata (Reeve, 1847)
This medium sized chiton (about 1 1/2 inches) is elongate oval in shape and moderately elevated. Color of the valves is creaming white to pale olive-green, mottled with dark green or dark brown. Wedge-shaped markings are often found on the jugum. The girdle is of medium width, mostly dark brown, sometimes greenish brown or blackish, blotched with white. It is covered with minute spicules.
Illustrated specimen is from the Burghardt Collection and was collected in Great Exhibition Bay, Northland, New Zealand.
