Ischnochiton cessaci (de Rochebrune, 1881)

This one-half to three-quarter inch chiton is shaped with width about one-half the length. The side slopes of valves slightly convex. The valve color is predominately dirty white or light ochre, more or less heavily speckled or blotched with black or rarely reddish brown. The lateral areas, which are moderately raised, have two outwardly diverging series of granules. The granules on the central area are smaller, diamond -shaped, and quincuncially arranged. The girdle is narrow, with alternating blotches of valve colors. The girdle is covered with rather small, imbricating scales.

The illustrated specimen is from the Kay Gudnason Collection and was collected in the Canary Islands.
