Edward Harry Burghardt, the only son of Harry and Clara, was born in Spring Valley, Wisconsin, in 1901. As Edward had six older sisters he was never without a baby sitter and was commonly used by them as a "living doll" to play with.

He married Velma Theresa Peterson, of Merced California, on August 1, 1928. They had only one son, Glenn Edward.

Ed passed away in 1985 leaving his wife, his son, three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren
