Cryptoconchus floridus (Dall, 1889)

This one inch chiton is recognized by its thin, black, naked girdle which extends upward over the valves except over the narrow, beaded dorsal area. These exposed valves appear as a streak of white paint along the top of the chiton. There is a minute pore bearing short bristles on the girdle at each suture, but very difficult to view.
