THE GEORGE HARVEY BURGHARDT FAMILY

George Harvey Burghardt, the second eldest son of Jacob and Mary, was born in the old Great Barrington homestead in 1832. He married Lucy Ann Dewey in 1857 thereby uniting two important families of early New England. Then George, along with wife Lucy, was the first of the Burghardt line to leave Great Barrington when they moved westward to settle in Fulton, Whiteside County Illinois where he was a railroad station master.

George's brother, Mark Burghardt, was interviewed in the Clinton Iowa Herald newspaper, Feb. 1930. To read click newspaper article
