Lepidochiton hartwegi (Carpenter, 1855)
This one and one-half inch chiton has a medium wide sandy girdle. The surface of the valves appears smooth but is microscopically granulated and has scattered wart-like granules which are heavier on the lateral areas. Also the lateral areas are definable. Murco is forward. The color of the girdle is flesh or dark gray mottled while the valves are most commonly grayish green with darker markings. This chiton is commonly found very much eroded. There is also an uncommon form sometimes found which is red-brown in color.
