Acanthochiton hemphilli (Pilsbry, 1893)
This one inch chiton has a girdle which almost covers the valves. The valves are colored red, occasionally spotted with white. The valves are heart-shaped, covered with minute, round, sharply raised pustules, except on narrow dorsal ridge. The girdle is rusty brown, lower edge with a spiculose fringe. There are four tufts of long, glassy bristles near the anterior valve and one on each side of the other valves. The tufts are set in cuplike collars.
