Tonicella insignis(Reeve, 1847)

This 1 1/2 inch chiton has a medium wide nude, microscopically granulated fleshy girdle. Mucro is anterior. Central areas are smooth and lateral areas are defined by a slightly raised rib with a smooth area inside. Color of valves is blood red with white lightning marks. Color of girdle is cream. Often confused with Tonicella submarmorea (Middendorff, 1847)
