Ischnochiton maorianus Iredale, 1914
This two inch elongate chiton has width one half its length. It is moderately elevated. The valve colors are variable: olive-green, buff or reddish brown, bronze-green, dark greyish or blackish. There can be longitudinal lines or streaks of darker shade or irregular bands on jugum. Lateral areas little raised, clearly defined and sculptured with fine, granulose, radiating riblets. Central areas microgranulose. The girdle is moderately wide, evenly buff to blackish brown in color, covered with medium sized scales.
