

Lepidozona mertensi (von Middendorff, 1847)
This two inch chiton has a medium wide girdle with smooth, compact, solid, oval scales. The mucro is central and low. The central areas have narrow, parallel riblets with faint netting between. The lateral areas sharply defined having radian rows of pustules. The tail valve has radially riblets posterior of murco and netting anteriorly. The head valve is radially ribbed. The color of this shell ranges from orange-red to claret-red or dull green sometimes with white markings. The girdle is similar in color to the valves.
