Plaxiphora obtecta Carpenter in Pilsbry, 1893
This large sized chiton (up to three and half inches) and is oval to elongate oval in shape. The valves are dark olivaceous to blackish brown. The lateral areas not raised, hardly defined. This chiton was a very wide girdle except at the posterior end. It is blackish brown in color and encroached deeply between the valves.
Illustrated specimen is from the Burghardt Collection and was collected at Bowentown Heads, New Zealand.
