Notoplax producta (Carpenter in Pilsbry, 1892)
This moderate sized chiton is unique in that the felt-like girdle is twice as wide at the front of the chiton as it is at the rear giving the appearance of a 'ball cap.' It is colored yellowish white. The valves are flatly arched and are pink merging into pale buff. The sculpture of the valves is coarse pebble-like grains. The lateral area is slightly raised and the pebble-like grains are twice as large as those in the central area.
The illustrated specimen is from the Burghardt Collection and was collected by Alan Seccombe in South Africa.
