
Callochiton septemvalvis

The almost one inch long chiton is oval in shape. The color of valves varies from brick red to cinnabar variegated with creamy white. Surface of valves finely quincuncially granulose, closely beset with black dots (the pigment cups of of the 'shell eyes'. The lateral areas are raised and have radiating rows of 'shell eyes'. The valves have a waxy appearance. The girdle is wide, about one third of the chiton's total width. The color is yellowish, variegated with reddish brown and covered with fine, straight, smooth, imbricating needles.
