Chiton (Rhyssoplax) politus
Spengler, 1797
This oval, oblong, elevated chiton is acutely carinated with side slopes nearly straight. The surface of the valves is smooth and polished. The ground color is buff or whitish mottled all over with reddish chestnut, fawn or purple brown. It is usually longitudinally streaked in the central area. The central areas are smooth except for slight growth lines and a microscopic granulation which covers the whole surface. The girdle is solid and closely covered with smooth, convex scales.
Illustrated specimen is from the Burghardt Collection and was collected by Alan Seccombe at Kommetjie, Atlantic Cape Coast, South Africa.
