Notoplax violacea (Quoy & Gaimard, 1835)
This elongated two inch chiton is rather depressed. The color of the valves is a rich, dark purple-brown to violet. Each valve has a buff triangle at the ridge. The girdle color is darker, with a pore at each suture. Each pore has a small tuft of white spicules which are mostly broken short.
Illustrated specimen is from the Burghardt Collection and was collected in Tasman Bay, Nelson, New Zealand.
