Acanthochitona zelandica (Quoy & Gaimard, 1835)
This elongated one inch chiton is moderately elevated. The valves are greenish, gray, yellowish dotted with brown, some valves swith a black line at the jugum. Lateral areas are covered with closely crowded, ovate, flattened granules. The girdle is greenish, covered with short spicules, having s marginal fringe of longer spicules and eighteen sufts of light blue spicules.
Illustrated specimen is from the Burghardt Collection and was collected in Horseshoe Bay, Stewart Is., New Zealand. The specimen illustrated is subsp. amplificata Iredale & Hull, 1930.
