ORTH WINS 55'S; ANDERSON REACHES 55 DOUBLES FINAL
There were 5 Americans in the singles draw, Charleen Hillebrand (4), Suella Steel (7) and Cathie Anderson (8) were seeded, and Suzanne Clark and Pat Graham also participated. Clark upset the Boothman, a 9-12 seed in the round of 32 before falling to 5th-seeded Ellie Krocke of the Netherlands in the round of 16. Krocke also knocked off Hillebrand before falling to Orth in the semis.Anderson fell in the quarters to ORth and Steel to 2nd seed Schroeder.

BLACKSHAW WINS 60'S/DEVRIES/KOONTZ REACH DOUBLES FINAL
There were 5 aAmericans in the singles draw, Lynn Little, Kathie Koonz (5), Carol Wood, Doris DeVries (7) and Burnette Herrick. Koonz was upset by Delamare in the round of 32, and Little went out in the round of 64 to Pearce. Wood and Herrick reached the round of 16, Wood falling to Darmon (3) and Herrick to DeVries. DeVries lost to Lieffrig (2) in the quarters. Blackshaw (6) of Australia beat Dalton and Darmon to win the title. DeVries/Koontz (2) edged Wood/Dalton (3) (who beat Little/VonOnciul) in the semis of the doubles before falling to Blackshaw/Gordon in the final.

70'S: MASON REACHES SINGLES AND DOUBLES FINAL
Betty Eisenstein (1), Barbara Davidson (2)Elaine Mason (5), Sally Deyo, Mary Converse and Sally Swetka were the American entrants. Mason beat Cury (4) in the quarters, then beat Eisenstein in the semis 4,3. Ines Pla(3) of Argentina edged Davidson 64 46 63 in the other semi. Pla beat Mason 6,1 in the final. Mason/Cheney(2) beat Rogers/Stock (3) in teh semis before falling 2,4 to Cury/Pla(1) in the final. Eisenstein/Frigerio (4) were upset in the round of 16, and Harrison/Swetka and Jaffe/Michaud and Deyo/Uhlmann also lost in the round of 16.

75's: Dodo Wins World Championships
Cheney had to work hard to win the worlds, beating Lown 6,4 in the quarters, Borzone 76 26 60 in the semis, and edging Rogers 92) 46 76 64 in the final. Alice Jones, USA, fell to Borzone in the quartes, and Mary Hill, USA fell to Stronk in the round of 16. There were only 3 doubles teams and Borzone/Fernandez beat Stronk/Carsetns 2,0 in the final, after beating Hill/Osorion in the semis.

REED, REED/GUNDERSON WIN WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS IN 65'S
Nancy Reed, Belmar Gunderson and Y. Van Nostrand were the American entrants in the 65's. Reed (8) upset top seeded Ilse Michel (who took out Gunderson in the round of 32) 60 46 61 in the quarters and then beat 5th-seeded Margaret Robinson 4,2 in the semis. In the finla she faced Jennifer Hoad (Spain, 6th seed), winning 62 16 61. Hoad took out 2nd-seeded Mazzoleni 3,2. Gunderson/Reed, (4) beat Forbes/Hoysted (Australia, #1 seeds) 64 36 60 in the semis and edged Estalella/Hoad (who took out the 2 seeds, Illingworth/Lauder) 62 26 76 in the final. Congratulations Nancy and Belmar!
