FROM TRAGEDY COMES A VISION
Sandra Davis, the founder of Mothers Against Gang Wars, knows first hand the tragedy of gang violence. She was a gang member herself involved in gang activities during the 1980's. In 1982 the gang lifestyle took her son, who also was a gang member, away from her when he was gunned downed at the age of 18. In a search for the killers, Sandra became further involved in the gang life engaging in various gang activities and eventually getting locked up. While serving time for gang related crimes, Sandra decided to make a positive change in her life and leave the gang life behind.
Today, Sandra uses her platform as the founder and Executive Director of Mothers Against Gang Wars to speak publicly about what gang life is like. The presentations are frank and powerful lectures that speak directly to the dangers and realities of gang life. Sandra has visited School Districts, The California Youth Authority as well as private organizations to lecture on gang awareness and the havoc gang violence causes on family and friends. In her lectures Sandra also talks about how gang members can make a change and begin to lead productive lives. Here are a few comments from those who have seen Sandra's presentation:
