It's finally done! Our second, all-styrene car kit is now shipping. We've had some unforeseen setbacks along the way, but we believe you'll think they were worth the wait. As you can see in the accompanying photos, we've sacrificed non of our kit quality or attention to detail in the transition from polyurethane to styrene. The new 7' x 20' flat cars feature a choice of body bolsters (depending on your choice of trucks), two different needle beams, two different buffer blocks, and a choice of two different truss rod N/B/Ws. Each kit, of course, includes all the parts necessary to complete the model (trucks, wheels, couplers, etc.). Some things you might notice while examining the photos of the on the left: No draft angle! (That's the sloped sides to parts that should be square to allow easier ejection from big, automated injected molded machines.) No scraping, filing, and sanding of parts to get a square part. No huge sinks to fill! (We run our machine low and slow to keep that from happening.) No warped or bent parts! (Always a plus.) Minimal flash. Super fine detail. (Be sure to see the close-ups!) Like the nail heads holding the queen post pads in place (bottom photo); and yes, those are scaled from real WSLCo. queen post pads. Interlocking parts and locating pins. (No guessing where something goes.)

20' Flat Car Kit:

Inspired by the those used by the West Side Lumber Company, these link and pin couplers are designed to fit on a car designed to use Kadee® No. 26 couplers. These couplers will take advantage of Kadee®'s standard box and spring to steady them in operation and to keep the head centered on the end of the car. The shanks have been thickened for a more scale look, but are easily modified for tight fits. They're even cast in styrene so paint will stick!
