Course Description : Computer Skills
Kelleen Farrell, Instructor Computer Skills is an introductory course to computers. We will explore operating systems, Microsoft Office Suite (word processing, powerpoint, and excel), I-Movie, and programming. You will produce Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, and PowerPoint presentations, movies, and create web pages. You will also improve your keyboarding skills. You will perform internet research extensively in this class. Many of the assignments in this class require working with a partner or group. You will be using email to send your work to each other. Grading and Classroom Policies Assignments: This class will run as a self-paced lab. You may work at your own pace on assignments, but there is a deadline for each assignment. Work will not be accepted after the deadline for each unit. Assignments are pass/fail and may be redone within the deadline in order to raise your grade. Grading for assignments is based on the following:
Projects and Quizzes: At the end of each unit, there is a final project. that tests all the skills you learned in that unit. These projects are graded and may not be redone. They will not be accepted late. Be sure to check the homework page on this website to familiarize yourself with the deadlines. These are also posted in the classroom. Be prepared for occasional pop quiz, as well. Culminating Projects: Each semester ends with a culminating project that will require you use all the skills you have learned. Participation: You earn 5 points each day for being on time and logged in. This is an easy way to raise your grade. Grades are calculated on the following breakdown:

Absences It is important that you attend all classes, but absences do occur. It is your responsibility to check with your partner and/or the class website to obtain notes and to find out what you have missed. There is also a notebook in the classroom with the assignments and notes for each week. Extra handouts are available at the student resource desk. If an absence will be for a prolonged period, please contact me and we can make arrangements for you to get your assignments and work on them from home. Materials: You will need to provide pens, pencils and paper and are required to
have these materials with you each day. In addition, you will need CD Roms
and DVD-R to take your work home (optional).
