Original Art by :
Katherine " Simpier " Millingar

Just a little about myself...

Before I begin, I would like to especially thank :

My Granfather Eugene Manning Simpier, who taught me my first art lesson...

My wonderful Aunt Kate, who made me feel like I could do anything...

My grammer school / high school art Teacher Ron Pechinino who told me to never quit,
no matter what...

And my last drawing teacher Bill Williams
who told me that he couldn't teach me to draw as I had the gift.
However, he would teach me to have the courage to do so...

I miss you all so much...

I also thank my Husband David Millingar, who is very supportive of all I do.
He has been by my side proudly when I won awards, and there as proudly if I didn't. Cutting frames and cutting fur when I was overwhelmed with a deadline. And then taking my work to many states, citys, shows and shops to show or sell...

I have been an artist since I can remember, drawing, painting, sculpting, etc.
Since 1994 I have been involved in a world wide business
of the soft sculpture art of adult collectible bears & other critters...
I am now in transition and returning to my passion for creating fine art...

I know I was born an Artist, and I know my talent is a gift directly from God.
As a Christian, I am blessed with a desire to create art that ministers to ones heart, soul & imagination...
Nothing dark or uncomfortable...

I have been blessed with some very nice awards for my work, and have created many pieces that are now in homes and businesses throughout the world...

Art is my passion,
if I'm not working physically,my mind is creating constantly.
Experimental art is most exciting to me,
I want to do something that hasn't been done and take the mediums to the limit.

In the last twelve years, I have concentrated on the soft sculpture, and have suffered a burnout. However, I will create some now & then, as I have a loyal collector base...
I believe the burn out came as a result of my yearning to return to the challenge of experimental art ...

I am now doing some warm glass techniques, jewelry, and painting...
I love working the glass because it is very fickle.
Full of many wonderful, and some skepitcal surprises...
Hence, the challenge!!!

My view on ART

I had an Art teacher in my one of my college classes who told me I would always be ignorant about art, because I stated my distaste for Picasso.
I was very indignant at the time, but as I have matured, I have discovered that he was absolutely right.
We don't have to appreciate the subject matter or try to understand the meaning.
There are many facets to an Artists work, we shouldn't stop at the very first glance.
Instead, we need to take the time to really view it,
and appreciate the entire creation of the piece...

I have come to the conclusion that abstract design is my forte,
as colour, light, and motion are dominant in my imagination...

I believe as a person views realism in art, a special moment, an awesome place, a lovely portrait...
They appreciate what they are viewing, and the work of the Artist.
They see it with their heart, with their eyes...

I feel as one views abstract art, it pulls them in, and they begin to travel into it,
searching, escaping & exploring.
It becomes their own story, their own meaning.
They see it with their spirit, they see it with their minds...

I will soon be adding more pages to this website as I photograph my work...
