Some Research and Discussion Papers
My own ...
- Learning-Related Outcomes of Computer Technology in K-12 Education
- "This paper summarizes ways in which computer technology and communications have been found to enhance learning in K-12 classrooms. The paper has been prepared at the request of Assembly Member Kerry Mazzoni, Chair of the Assembly Education Committee, to support the work of the Commission on Teacher Credentialing in developing computer technology training standards for teachers. Those standards will respond to requirements of Assembly Bill 1023 (Chapter 404, statutes of 1997)."
Also available via the California Research Bureau's site.
E-mail me if you want a (free) printed copy of the published report.
- "Teachers and a New Educational Technology: A Fable of sorts (without talking animals) "
- Posted April 19, 1998. Comments are invited.
- Computer Technology in California K-12 Schools: Uses, Best Practices, and Policy Implications (March 1998)
- Word 97 format. See below for other options. This brief report summarizes interesting educational examples of computer and Internet use, widely accepted "best practices," and points for consideration by policymakers and implementors at all levels.

- Extensive selection of papers prepared for "The Secretary's National Conference on Educational Technology: Evaluating the Effectiveness of Technology," July 12-13, 1999
- "Managing Technology Efficiently in California K-12 Schools"
- Subtitled "Policies & Practices for Minimizing the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO)," this is June 1999 paper by Kyra Caspary, Tim Kusserow, Jake Lavin, and Maziar Movassaghi. It draws from a combination of case studies, interviews, and literature research. (It is listed at the bottom of the California Research Bureau's list of papers, in a section devoted to "Papers presented in association with the California Research Bureau.") It is an excellent complement to my ed. tech. papers, listed above, and should be of interest to school officials and policy makers involved with technology planning -- and of course stands entirely on its own. (Use this link to go straight to the pdf file, bypassing the CRB publication list.)
- "Internet Use by Teachers," by Henry Jay Becker (February 1999)
- Results of a survey. The full report is available in PDF format. "An earlier analysis of the same data was presented at Tel-Ed 1998, San Antonio, TX, October 30th, 1998. This paper provides a revised and more extended analysis . . . ."

The following sites pertain to education, educational resources, or
educational institutions. Many of the sites listed in other sections
of my home page would be useful to students and teachers, however, and some are designed specifically for educational purposes. Many of these links pertain to K-12 education, but the first section has some higher education sites, too. I'm working on reorganizing and adding comments, but that is a work in progress ... or, "this page is under construction," as they say.
There is a lot here ... take some time to investigate. I'll be reorganizing this soon, I hope, so keep an eye out for the new, improved layout. It may be a while, though :::sigh::: ...
