The Barrie family has imported, bred and raised Border Collies for the last 75 years. Jim is a 3rd generation cattleman. All dogs are bred for ranch work and for natural ability to think on their own and be tough enough for the roughest bull, cow or yearling. Now, with the cattle market on the down side and our ranch switching to raising Meat Goats, we have had to start a new breeding program that will enable us to raise a dog that can work both cattle, sheep and goats. Our dogs must never bite unless told to, be able to gently handle the little ones and not crowd, but still be able to be taken out and worked on moving yearlings, bulls or cow/calf. Not an easy order.

Our pups are taken to look at the livestock at 2 mos. old to see who has interest and who doesn't. We encourage them early on and make sure that no accidents happen to discourage them. Time, patience and daily contact with the livestock make our dogs into what we hope will be the animal that can do the work for you on your farm and ranch.

Jim also gives lessons on the weekends for those that have started their dogs and don't know where to go from that point. Many of his clients are using their dogs for trials and need to learn a better balance and general understanding of how a Border Collie thinks. We believe that bonding with your dog is the most important step in becoming winning partners wether its on the trial course or out in the fields with your own animals. A dog that loves his master will go the extra mile every time.
