Orange Pomander

MATERIALS:
A small thin-skinned orange
a small box of cloves
small quantity of orris root and powdered cinnamon, if desired.

DIRECTIONS:
Stick a clove, sharp end first, directly into the skin of the orange. Insert another, almost touching the first one. Continue to do this until the entire orange is covered with the spicy black pellets. Place the cloved orange on a foil covered plate, sprinkle with orris root and cinnamon and set aside to ripen for 3-4 days. Thread a large darning needle with colored string and push the needle and string through the center of the orange. Tie the string into a bow and hang to complete drying.

In a couple of weeks, the orange will have shrunk in size and gained in fragrance. It is now ready to hang in clothes closet or stash away in a drawer, or cabinet. Make nice gifts.
