Cherie...........Cherie & Herman Zimmerman.......Richard
Nichelle Nichols........The infamous Transporter
Personal Anecdotes
WILLIAM SHATNER...
At a convention in Pasadena, California Bill was scheduled to speak in the largest
of the rooms and the Transporter was present in same and he had agreed to
utilize it during his entrance. At the last moment he chose not to make his
entrance through the Transporter and he received a rather poor welcome.
MARK LENARD...
For the opening of "Star Trek The Movie" we had the
pleasure of having Mark at our home for dinner prior to the showing of the
film. After dinner we drove to the theater and shared in the gala and
champagne and we were seated at the front of the theater. As the movie
began we watched the first 15 minutes of the film when my wife fell asleep
on Mark's shoulder. There she stayed until the end of the film and Mark
remarked, "At least you saw the part of the film that I was in." With that we
all laughed and left the theater.
GEORGE TAKEI...
At a luncheon in
Fisherman's Grotto #9 in San Francisco there was a group
of us enjoying the meal but George appeared restless.
No one appeared to notice him and he let out with a
boisterous laugh which aroused everyone's attention and
our table was soon deluged with fans asking George for
his atuograph. He was most pleased at this turn of events.
NICHELLE NICHOLS...
During Space Con 7 on the last day of the
convention William Shatner was to speak and for some reason he was
unable to attend and Nichelle Nichols, Erig Burgess and Richard
spontaneously started an Interspecies Communication dissertation which
lasted for over two hours and an audience of nearly 3,000. Great fun.
DEFORREST KELLEY...
At a convention in San Francisco
the Transporter was utilized to bring Star Trek Guests onto
the main stage and when it was time for "LEONARD MCCOY" to pass
through the Transporter he asked, "Is this thing safe?"
WALTER KOENING...
Upon the opening of "Star Trek The Movie" at a
major theater in San Jose the Transporter was on hand and so was Walter.
The gala organizer had set Walter in the main theater, which was empty and
almost dark, and when we sat and talked to Walter the depressive
atmosphere of the empty theater had taken a minor toll on Walter. Once we
joined him the austerity of the theater vanished and Walter responded with
enthusiasm.
JAMES DOOHAN...
At the first press conference of the Transporter (picture
above) Jimmy pulled up in his motor home at the warehouse location and
we joined him there for a cold one prior to the conference.
GRACE LEE WHITNEY...
At the same press conference Grace joined us in
Jimmy's motorhome and we exchanged stories of our dealings with
conventions and press conferences.
