Minutes of Board Meeting

DATE: Tuesday, October 02, 2001

TIME: 8:30 A.M.

PLACE: Stallion Springs Lodge

The meeting was called to order by President Carlos Lillywhite. Additional board members present were Vice President Andy Strong, Treasurer Paul Beckett, Secretary Steve Cherry, Membership and Handicap Chairman Cecil Clark, and Social Chairman Dick Burris. Club Pro Leon Fourie and Tournament Chairman Tom Crumrine were also present.

TREASURER'S REPORT: Treasurer Paul Beckett provided an updated report showing a balance of $1968.44.

MEMBERSHIP AND HANDICAP CHAIRMAN'S REPORT: Cecil Clark reported that the membership currently stands at 140. He distributed copies of the 2002 Membership Application and pointed out that the dues have not increased.

TOURNAMENT CHAIRMAN'S REPORT: Tom Crumrine is working on next year's tournament schedule and will distribute it in the near future. He distributed proposed guidelines for the Men's Club Friday Tournaments and all members agreed with them. The guidelines will be posted on the Men's Club bulletin board. Tom also said that he had received some feedback concerning tournaments allowing unlimited handicaps, especially when guests are involved. After discussion, the board agreed that limits on handicaps may be appropriate in some formats involving team play or partner's play.

NEW BUSINESS:

Carlos Lillywhite reported that Ted Andrews had volunteered to act as Social Chairman. The Board gladly accepted Ted's generous offer.

Leon Fourie provided updates on the following subjects:

WILD PIGS: Fencing is available to try to keep the wild pigs from doing further damage to the course. Because of their status as game animals, other options to get rid of them are very limited.

COURSE MAINTENANCE:

GREENS: The greens will be verticut and sanded on Oct 16 and 17. The combination of a new vertidrain machine and a finer grade of sand should make the greens fit for play after a shorter delay than in the past.

LAKES: The lakes are being treated for algae removal. The lake between holes 15 and 18 is being drained since there is no natural inflow and it is becoming prohibitively expensive to keep it filled. The waterfall pump by the ninth tee will be replaced with a much more efficient one.

IRRIGATION SYSTEM: The current irrigation system is showing signs of wear and needs frequent repairs. Much more efficient systems are now available and upgrades will be made as funds become available.

Cecil Clark moved that the Men's Club provide a momento to Bob Bennett in recognition of his fine work as Men's Club President. Carlos Lillywhite seconded the motion and it was approved by the board.

The next meeting will take place at 8:30 A.M. on November 6, 2001 at the Stallion Springs Lodge.

Respectfully Submitted:

Steve Cherry, Secretary
