Minutes of Board Meeting

 

DATE:             Tuesday, March 5, 2002

 

TIME:             9:00 A.M.

 

PLACE:            Horsethief Golf Club

 

The meeting was called to order by President Carlos Lillywhite.  Additional board members present were Vice President Andy Strong, Treasurer Paul Beckett, Secretary Steve Cherry, Membership and Handicap Chairman Cecil Clark, and Board Member Dick Burris. Club Pro Leon Fourie and Tournament Chairman Tom Crumrine were also present. 

 

TREASURER'S REPORT: Treasurer Paul Beckett provided an updated report showing a balance of $4235.70 as of March 5, 2002.  We still owe Johnson Printing for the recently published Membership Roster.

 

MEMBERSHIP AND HANDICAP CHAIRMAN'S REPORT: Cecil Clark reported that the membership currently stands at 129.  Cecil keeps an up-to-date listing and it has changed since the Membership Roster was printed a few weeks ago.  We’ll try to keep a current listing on the internet.  Cecil will be attending an SCGA workshop in the near future which will make him a certified Handicap Chairman.

 

TOURNAMENT CHAIRMAN'S REPORT: Tom Crumrine reminded all that the next tournament is a Partner’s Better Ball on March 16th.  There will be no handicap restrictions for this tournament and prizes will be presented for both net and gross winners. 

 

NEW BUSINESS:  Carlos Lillywhite recommended a rules committee of Leon Fourie, Tom Crumrine, and Steve Cherry for future tournaments.   The Board  agreed with the proposal.

 

Andy Strong proposed that the Men’s Club provide the Tehachapi High School Golf Team with $200.00 for range balls this year, the same amount that was provided last year.  The proposal was approved.  Andy also said that the Team is looking for volunteers to help coach the team.

 

There was discussion about whether the monthly most improved golfer award should be based on total strokes or a percentage improvement.  The Board decided that the best compromise would be to eliminate the monthly awards and to recognize the most improved golfers for the year, total and percentage.  The winners will receive a gift certificate and  a plaque or trophy (to be determined later).

 

The meeting was adjourned at 10:00 A.M. The next meeting will take place at 9:00 A.M. on April 2nd at the Horsethief Golf Club.
