Sir Bob's Website Presents

North Lake County Branch 168
Sons in Retirement is an organization devoted to promoting independence and dignity of retirement. It is open to any man retired from full time employment, part time jobs are still allowed, and is intended to bring people together in a social atmosphere. Meetings consist of a social/conversation session lasting about an hour, a lunch lasting just over an hour, and a talk or special presentation by a local personality.
There are currently three branches in Lake County, which make up Area 32:
Branch #133 meets at the Elks Club in Clearlake on the 3rd Friday of each month
Branch #174 meets at the Riviera Country Club, Kelseyville the 3rd Thursday each month
Branch #168 will meet at least for now, at the Benvenuto Restaurant, 320 S. Main St., in Lakeport on the 2nd Friday of the month starting at 11:00AM,
The 2002 and 2003 Area Governor for Area 32:

S.I.R. is never political, but it is always patriotic. We are all proud to call ourselves Americans, but never more so than when this great nation rises to whatever task awaits it.
Join us in a respectful salute to our Grand Old Flag.

SIR's activities include an active golf schedule, a fall and winter bowling league, and an RV Club that is well under way for 2003. In addition, bus and train trips to such places as Reno, Carson City and Loughlin in Nevada are arranged, and a major trip is set up on a statewide basis yearly. 2003 will be full of fun and recreation.
If you would like to take in a meeting, stop by any branch at its regular meeting time. Then, if you like what you see, fill out an application.
We would love to have you stop by and see who we are. Come in and join us for a couple hours of food, fun and friendly banter.
FAQ's
1. What is Sons in Retirement, Inc.?
It is a group of about 28,000 men who are retired from Full-Time employment. But, if all of you join, we can make that much larger. It has been incorporated by the State of California as a "Non-Profit Public Benefit Corporation" for Public Purposes. It currently consists of approximately 180 branches throughout California. While there is a state organization to oversee general operations, each branch is largely autonomous, electing its own officers and directors, and establishing its own local activities.
2. What do Sirs do?
In addition to the meetings, members engage in sports and recreation activities, as mentioned. For a more in-depth look at these activities, visit one or more of the accompanying special pages.
3. What else do Sirs do?
Each branch has a travel chairman who arranges for trips to the race track, a group outing to a stage show, golf trips to Nevada and Hawai'i, Cruises, and virtually any such activity that you can dream up.
4. What does it cost to be a Sir?
Nothing! Well, there are no dues. Each member is expected to pay for his own lunch, and any libation he may order. Members are asked to put in a dollar or two each month to help defray expenses, but we must emphasize, this is voluntary.
5. How does a Sir know what is happening with his branch?
Each branch publishes a bulletin or newsletter, which is mailed to each member of record. The bulletin will generally contain a summary of the last Executive Committee meeting, messages from various committee chairs, schedules and results of sporting and recreational activities, and other items generally regarded as "the latest dope."
6. How do I find out about attending a meeting?
This is the easy part. Just drop in. You will find that we are really a friendly group, and you will be welcome just because you walked in the door. If you would like even more info, drop a line to the E-mail address given both above and below.
7. How do I reach the Statewide Website for more info?
There is a website maintained at the state level with a variety of information on the organization and its activities. Feel free to enter it at your pleasure.

RVING: The Roving Roosters of Lake County
The crabbing trip to Oregon finished out the year, and unfortuneately, finished out Larry Fox's tenure with the Roosters. He moved to Washington State in January. In the 2003 election of officers, Larry Powers was named the Chairman

COMPUTERS: This webmaster joined Sons in Retirement in the fall of 1994. At that time there were only 3 Branch 168 members with computers, and only 2 of them had e-mail capability. Branch 133, the only other branch at the time in Lake County had, as I recall, 6 members with computers. Then, the computer revolution really took hold. At this time, there are in my file more than 70 e-mail listings for Lake County members. Articles for the bulletin are forwarded this way, and there is a laptop present at all board meetings, with rules and regulations, forms, and other items of importance. If computers are in your daily activities, this is a good place to be.
