About the Founders

Sierra Sherpa was created and is operated by Kristen and Stuart Kellermyer. Stuart was born in the Lake Tahoe area and was raised in Squaw Valley where he learned to ski at the age of two. His passion for skiing and the outdoors was a constant distraction through his high school years. After studying outdoor recreation he decided to move back to Lake Tahoe to gain practical experience in the recreation industry. In the summer months Stuart worked as a rafting photographer, in kayak sales and rentals, parasail tours and for a bungee jumping company. In the winter he worked for Squaw Valley Skier Safety Patrol where he was trained in avalanche safety, avalanche control, and search and rescue. Stuart began working as a carpenter in the summer months and began to ski full time in the winter. During this time he dedicated himself to searching out new places to ski. This search continually led Stuart deeper into the Tahoe backcountry, and the Sierra Nevada mountains. It was at this time he began to conceive the idea for Sierra Sherpa. Stuart has over ten years of backcountry skiing, climbing and ski mountaineering experience.
Kristen was born and raised in Southern California. After high school she attended San Diego State University where she obtained a bachelor of science degree in liberal studies. After graduation she moved to Lake Tahoe where she continued her studies and obtained both a California and Nevada teaching certificate from Sierra Nevada College. She is currently employed by the Tahoe Unified School District as a substitute teacher, and continues her professional development by studying Spanish, and training in avalanche awareness and winter survival. Kristen comes from a surfing background and made the obvious cross over to snowboarding. Skiing was a part of her childhood, but it was the desire to explore the backcountry that reunited her with the sport, and introduced her to telemark skiing.
Kristen and Stuart were married in 1996. Together they have built a dream of introducing the winter wilderness to others, and sharing their knowledge and experience. Sierra Sherpa is only their first step to seeing their dream become reality. They invite you to come explore the winter wilderness the Sierra Sherpa way.

Our staff and guides are truly talented. They work for us because of their love of skiing, snowboarding, and the winter outdoors. We all take pride in making your adventure the best it can possibly be. Most of all we enjoy sharing it with others.
