VMFA-531 GREY GHOSTS
The Grey Ghost Logo was designed by LtCol Jack COLBY USMCR (Ret.), one of the original members of VMF(N)-531. A photo of it appeared as early as August 1946 in Naval Aviation News. Today the logo remains virtually unchanged, depicting flashes from the eye hollows, designating a secret locating device used in the darkened skies by the first Marine night fighters. At an early point, 531 was often referred to as the Bat-Eye squadron. |
