RHODE ISLAND CONNECTION
While researching the Soule line, the same surnames were found in the 1600's in Rhode Island as the 1800's in Alburg and Isle LaMotte, Vermont. This turned into a fascinating study and so the following list includes all the main families in Rhode Island that are also found in Alburg and Isle LaMotte, Vermont. The names Soule and Sewell names were found, but not as main families. They married into these main families. They are as follows: Abbott, Allen, Andrew, Austin, Ayres(Ayer), Babcock, Bailey, Bakler, Ball, Ballou, Barber, Barker, Barnes, Barton, Bennett, Bentley, Billings, Brayton, Brooks, Brown, Burgess, Burton, Butts, Carpenter, Carr, Card, Case, Casey, Chamberlain(Chamberlin), Clarke(Clark), Cole,Collins, Comstock, Congdon, Cook, Cooper, Cory, Cornell, Covey, Daily, Davis, Davol(Deuel), Dennis, Dodge, Dunn, Dyer, Earle, Fisher, Foster, George, Gibson, Gould, Gray, Green, Hall, Hannah(Hanna), Harris, Hawkins, Heath, Hicks, Hill, Hilliard, Holmes, Hopkins, Hubbard, Irish, Johnson, Jones, Kelly(Kelley), King, Ladd, Lewis, Lilly(Lillie), Lockwood, Lyndon, Manchester, Marsh, Marshall, Mitchell, Morris, Mott, Nichols, Niles, Northrup, Osborne(Osborn), Pabodie(Peabody)(Pebody), Paine, Palmer, Parker, Parsons, Peckham, Perry, Phillips, Pierce, Pike, Place, Pomeroy, Porter, Potter, Power, Pratt, Pray, Randall, Reynolds, Rice, Richardson, Roberts, Robinson, Rogers, Sanford, Scott, Searle, Shaw, Sherman, Smith, Spencer, Sprague, Stafford, Stanton, Stone, Straight, Sweet, Taber(Tabor), Taylor, Thomas, Todd, Turner, Vaughan, Wait, Walker, Ward, Warner, Watson, Weaver, Wells, West, Westcott(Wescott), Whitford, Wightman, Wilcox, Willett, Williams, Wilson, Wood.
There are certain families in Alburg and Isle LaMotte, Vermont that directly tie into the above mentioned names; such as, Babcock, Ballou, Deuel, and Reynolds, but most have to be researched and connected. While trying to find the Sewell line that has been so elusive for so many years, I did find a Rhode Island connection. Abigail Sewell daughter of Thomas Sewell in Kingstown, Rhode Island married Alexander Phenix. Their daughter, Abigail Phenix married Beriah Brown. If anyone can connect this Brown family with the extensive Brown family found in Alburg, Vermont, I would be deeply appreciative. There's a lot of research that still needs to be done, but I will continue to work on it.
