MAGIC SQUARES IN HEBREW, LEVELS TWO THROUGH FIVE, INVENTED BY RAY MC ALLISTER

(Back to HOME.)

I was happy to recieve in the e-mail a manuscript from Ray McAllister that contained an entire set of magic squares in Hebrew. Since most people do not have software that would render the letters of the Hebrew "alphabet" correctly, I present his squares as a scanned "jpeg" image. At the same time, I will present these in a system of transliteration that Mr. McAllister forewarded to me, and this system reads from left to right, as the roman alphabet does, and uses various characters to take the place of the roman letters in such cases as there is no roman equivalent, or in which there is ambguity. I hope this is a fair statement, as I know little about the Hebrew language or spelling. The system is as follows, the so-called "Michigan-Claremont" scheme:

Hebrew Magic Square

#  equals "shin" or "sin"
$  equals "shin"
&   equals "sin"
(   equals "ayin"
)  equals "alef"
+  equals "tet"
C  equals "tzadi"
S  equals "samek"
T  equals "tav"
X  equals "chet"

Where I surround a text in quotes, from now on, I mean to indicate that I am quoting Mr. McAllister; if there are no quotes, it is my own words speaking. Here are the pronounciations of the words in the roman alphabet, the texts of the palindromes in the system of transliteration outlined above, and Mr. McAllister's translation into English. The numbers refer to those on my image, on the left.

1. "ab ba" = "Father has come."
2. "Yavo' ba'av 'Avi." = "Let my Father enter the cloud."
3. "Yimshol Migdash Shedaqqem Lishmi." = "Let a Sanctuary rule which crushed them for My Name."
4. "Mamlekhet Meshammerkha lamachmal keramsam takhlimem." = Literal translation: "The Kingdom--of Him who watches after you--for the object of pity/desire--as they creep--let it bring them to shame." Mr. McAllister : "Smoothed out, this battle cry of spiritual war reads, 'For the object of affection, let the kingdom of Him who watches after you bring them to shame as they creep.'"

Mr. McAllister has also included a further refinement in his five-letter square (Illus. 4). The middle nine letters say something besides, as follows :

5. "Shemor Mechom Remes" = "Protect from the heat of the creeping thing."
